Just two days till Halloween and I am all prepared with a couple of bags of sweets for those trick or treaters to come knocking on my door! ( I hope I have enough!) I still remember scary poems and songs from my time in teaching and remember how the children loved them especially if there was a little bit of a scare at the end that made them jump! The night is also great fun to for the children and again the thrill that comes from a little scare can liven up a dark dull night after the clocks have gone backat anytime. There are some great and clever creative parents who face paint their children so that they can go round the neighbourhood and knock in anticipation knowing there is a bag of treats waiting for them! Even us oldies don't miss out with a party after the children have had their fun and gone to bed (if they are not too scred to sleep that is!) and you are never to old to wear fancy dress yourself! Not sure about the tricks though! Burnley and the surrounding area with the magestic Pendle Hill overlooking us all is steeped in folklore with the Pendle witches and adds more mystery to the night if you are lucky enough or should I say brave enough to go near it! Although Halloween is a fantastic excuse for brightening up the dark nights as winter starts to set in it is a time that leads up to All Hallows Day or All Saints Day when we can remember our loved ones that are no longer with us on the Sunday so as a time of reflection it can have a completely different meaning for us all. You should never need an excuse for having beautiful flowers in your lives but using flowers to decorate your home at this time is a bright and cheerful way to celebrate the two days and would make a wonderful centrepiece for any party. I am on pinterest and there are some fantastic ideas for Halloween parties (if you need some that is) and superb flower arrangements too and my favourite one on there is the large traditional pumpkin in the picture below. The other one with fresh flowers is one I made a week or two ago with a small pumpkin type of squash, a corn on the cob and a butternut squash. The two with artificial silk flowers I have made myself. Pefect moment for a sales pitch- sorry, they are both for sale and can be seen in Craft Rangers in Harle Syke at the moment but the fresh ones can be made to order too if that was what you wanted. Which would be your favourite for a party centrepiece?
